Position Summary:

Training level for new Maintenance Technicians with little or no plant experience. Responsible for preventative maintenance (CLI, Sweeping the forward & return spectrum, power supply maintenance, return ingress management) and emergency maintenance (outage restoration and area problems) from the Optical Node receiver to subscriber point of service connection.

Primary Responsibilities/Tasks - Essential Functions

  • Meet required certifications within 12 months of hire date
  • Perform preventative maintenance in the areas of:
    • CLI in compliance of FCC rules & regulations.
    • Balancing and Sweeping both forward and reverse spectrums is a plus.
    • Power Supply maintenance.
  • Diagnose and repair system outages within a two-hour time frame utilizing appropriate methods and equipment.
  • Assist in FCC compliance testing.
  • Resolve area problems both forward and reverse.
  • Adhere to all administrative procedures associated with position.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma, GED or relevant work experience
  • 0-2 years of experience in area of responsibility

Additional Requirements

  • Possession of a valid Nevada driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Two years experience in technical cable operations. (Or equivalent)
  • Skilled in resolving installation and service technical problems using accepted practices, procedures and FCC technical standards.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Able to physically identify hard-line equipment and its purpose.
  • Ability to read maps / system prints.
  • Certified in pole climbing, use of extension ladders.
  • Ability to work all shifts: Graveyard, Swing, Weekends, Holidays.

Recommended Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Demonstratable knowledge of Word, Excel, Access, Outlook.
  • Basic AC/DC circuit knowledge.
  • Unity gain understanding.
  • Pole line maintenance skills.
  • Ability to use a TDR.
  • Good working knowledge of online troubleshooting tools to identify connectivity and/or speed issues.
  • On-Call rotation

Environment/Working Conditions

  • Outside work.
  • Electricity, heights, dangerous tools, traffic.
  • Extreme weather conditions.
  • Working outside after sunset.
  • Unscheduled overtime as needed.
  • Occasionally working in manholes.
  • Daily driving of a company vehicle.

Physical Qualifications

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs., work in cramped spaces and at heights.
  • Ability to tolerate weather extremes.
  • Strength and coordination sufficient to perform pole and ladder climbing.

Visual Requirements

  • Vision, depth perception and hand eye coordination so to perform regular job duties.
  • Visual acuity necessary to operate test equipment.
